The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has issued a list of a delegation that will attend the inauguration of Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s President.

Representatives from Nigeria’s traditional allies, including the UK, US, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Pakistan, China, Germany, Finland, Jamaica, Japan, Israel, Turkey, and others, are expected to attend the high-profile event.

Although, the United States President will not be visiting, he has named his delegation to attend President-elect Bola Tinubu’s inauguration.

Earlier, Heads of State were handed invites to Tinubu’s inauguration that will hold on May 29.

Actually, in four days, the former Lagos State governor will be sworn in as Nigeria’s 16th President.

The event will hold at the Eagle Square in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

Past presidents, diplomats, heads of international organisations, renowned Nigerians, and officials of foreign governments and agencies will attend.

The inauguration ceremony will commence on Thursday with Tinubu receiving the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic and Kashim Shettima receiving the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.

Nine-Member Biden Delegation

Ahead of the event, Biden announced a nine-member delegation for the inauguration.

Marcia L. Fudge, Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, will lead the delegation.

  • The Honourable Enoh T. Ebong, Director, U.S. Trade and Development Agency
  • The Honorable Mary Catherine Phee, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of African Affairs, U.S. Department of State
  • The Honorable Judd Devermont, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs, National Security Council
  • The Honorable Monde Muyangwa, Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Africa, U.S. Agency for International Development.

Sequence Of Events

According to the programme of events, on May 27, former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta will offer a speech entitled: ‘Deepening Democracy for Integration and Development’.

Other events planned include a Regimental Dinner honoring the Commander-in-Chief at the Armed Forces Officers Mess on Tuesday, May 23.

On May 24, the Valedictory Federal Executive Council Meeting will hold at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa.

Also, on May 26, there will be a public lecture and Juma’at prayer at the National Mosque.

On May 27, there will be a Children’s Day Parade and Party.

Furthermore, on May 28, there will be an Inter-denominational Church Service at the National Christian Centre.

Also, in the scheduled for May 28 is the Inauguration Dinner/Gala Night at the State House Conference Centre.

Afterwards, there will be the inauguration/swearing-in of the president-elect and vice president-elect on May 29 with an inauguration procession at Eagle Square.

The new President will attend a post-inauguration luncheon with his fellow Presidents, Heads of Government, and guests.

That event will hold at the State House Banquet Hall.
