Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will have no need to take his things out of the Lagos State House in Marina till 2027. He has been declared the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Nigeria’s commercial city.Â
Sanwo-Olu polled 762,134 votes to see his reelection dream come true.
The candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour came second in the polls with 312, 329 votes.
In the third place, so far, is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olajide Adediran aka Jandor. He has 62,449 votes from the 20 local government areas in Lagos state.

Only 28 states in Nigeria took part in the governorship election of March 18.

Eight states, Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun, and Ondo, have governorship elections at different times. The reasons is that some court judgements unseat a governor and proclaim an opponent winner.
Sanwo-Olu is one of the 11 governors seeking a second term in office.
There was so much hope for the Labour Party in the governorship election, after Peter Obi polled 582,454 votes in Lagos in the presidential election.
Lagos is the stronghold of the presidential candidate of the APC, who only polled 572,606 votes in the presidential election.
The state has tilted towards the holds of the APC till 2027.
Earlier, the Labour Party leadership had said there was voter apathy in the elections, as a result of how the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) handled the presidential election.
The Labour Party’s agent at INEC collation centre in Lagos state described the whole process as a sham saying the election was fraught with so much irregularities.
They went on to reject the result of the election calling for a cancellation on the grounds that the election was not free and fair.
Low turn out of voters was recorded in different areas of Lagos State.
