The Oyo state wing of the Amotekun Corps has recovered AK-47 rifles and military camouflage among many other items from suspected kidnappers in Oyo state.

The Commandant of the Southwest Security Network (Amotekun) in Oyo state, Col. Olayinka Olayanju, revealed that four AK-47 rifles, four magazines and 50 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered from the forest.

The corps also recovered wraps of Indian hemp, raincoats, two Nigerian Army caps, and a beret.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan, on Monday, the Commandant revealed that the items were recovered during the combing of the forest by operatives of the corps following a rise in kidnap cases on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Olayanju said, “Last weekend, the efforts of our men were rewarded when the arms and ammunition were found in one of the forests following a tip-off that some gunmen sighted in the area.

“The security network’s agents are still present in the forest to possibly apprehend the criminal element.”

Remarking on the discovery, Special Adviser to the state governor on Security Matters, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the collaboration between the hunters and vigilantes in the state assisted greatly in the recent successes the Amotekun corps recorded in the state.

Owoseni revealed that the state government would provide the corps with the necessary equipment needed to operate better.
