Does Yunusa-Ari , the ‘calamity’ Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) that almost messed Adamawa election have a personal ‘beef’ with the incumbent governor?   Adamawa: Gov Fintiri Vows To Jail Suspended REC

Apparently, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri must have received a heart-deep shock when the REC announced that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Aisha Binani Dahiru has won the election.

Now, Governor Fintri says he will pursue the prosecution of the INEC official to a logical conclusion.

Indeed, the Adamawa gubernatorial and supplementary elections were filled with so much drama. In fact, it became the most publicised election in Nigeria in 2023.

Two times, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Aisha Binani Dahiru was said to have won before the official announcement.

After the March 18 gubernatorial election, Binani was said to have won and many had begun to celebrate her.

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it was yet to announce a winner.

Eventually, the election was declared inconclusive and a supplementary election was scheduled for April 15.

Also, after the supplementary election, Binani was declared the winner of the election.

This declaration was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Hudu Yunusa-Ari while collation was ongoing.

INEC immediately said the declaration was false and summoned the REC to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Eventually, the REC was suspended and collation continued.

At the end of the collation, on Tuesday, Governor Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner.

A certificate of return was presented to Fintiri on Wednesday after which he vowed to jail the REC.

Fintiri’s Vow

Governor Fintiri accuses Yunusa-Ari of plotting to stage a ‘democratic coup’ during the results collation.

The governor also blames ‘forces in Abuja’ for attempting to manipulate the election results.

Furthermore, he accuses the suspended REC of manipulating the election to favour Binani.

The governor vows to instruct the Ministry of Justice to prosecute the REC and ensure that he is taken to jail.

“I’ve become a veteran of inconclusive elections and I’ve learnt a lot out of it.

“I know that I won the election on the 18th of March, squarely. Hudu, from the beginning, had been manipulating the election to see that he gives it to the APC.

“I know he stole a lot of our votes and gave it to APC in his bid to see that he declares her (Binani).

“But unfortunately because of the quantum of the votes we had gotten, he became confused and had to declare the election inconclusive believing if he is given the second opportunity he will be able to manipulate.

“God didn’t also allow him. We won the inconclusive election again squarely and he had to do what he did disgracefully,” Fintiri says.

The governor says INEC is working to prosecute the REC but he believes the best place to prosecute him is Adamawa.

Fintiri says he committed the offence “in my land” and he will instruct the Ministry of Justice to prosecute him.
