Following these developments, poultry farmers have called on the Federal Government to urgently intervene and prevent the imminent collapse of the poultry industry.

The following are reasons the Federal Government needs to urgently intervene.

1.  Loss Of Livelihood

Collapse of these farms will result in loss of jobs, raising the number of unemployed persons in Nigeria.

Many depend on their poultry jobs for livelihood. With job losses, Nigeria’s economy will fill the pains while their family, relative and the society at large, bear the burden of this unfortunate situation.

2.  Food Security Drive

The government needs to address this situation before it hampers the food security drive of President Bola Tinubu.

Also, the closure of poultry farms will ultimately affect the baking industry, since they rely on eggs.  as there would not be eggs for mixing flour to make cakes and bread.

Dealers in life chicken and egg vendors will see their businesses plummet due to a fall in supply.

3.  Increasing Poultry Risk 

The poultry farming business has become too risky.

Investors are afraid to continue investing in a collapsing venture. As a result, they are looking elsewhere.

Time after time, the cost of feeds rises and that has a multiplier effect on the price of your egg and the chicken you buy.

When the festive period comes and you need chicken for celebration, the cost will surely go up because of this rising cost of keeping the birds.

What Poultry Owner Want From Government

It has become very necessary for the government to regulate the prices of maize and feeds that poultry animals depends on for survival.

The prices of these feeds have gone up astronomically because of the near monopoly system that is in operation.

Also, the government should explore an immediate release of maize from the federal grains reserve.

Furthermore, the government should remove restrictions on the importation of maize.
