Former presidential contender Peter Obi has officially announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing deepening internal tensions and an increasingly difficult political atmosphere.
In a statement shared on his X account on Sunday, Obi reflected on what he described as a discouraging environment, both within the broader political space and inside party structures.
He noted that even among allies, individuals can face unexpected resistance, criticism, and lack of solidarity.
Obi was careful to clarify that his decision was not rooted in personal grievances against key figures such as David Mark or Atiku Abubakar.
According to him, he still holds them in high regard. Instead, he pointed to persistent internal conflicts, legal disputes, and a growing culture of division within the party as major factors behind his exit.
Experience In Labour
Drawing parallels with his previous experience in the Labour Party, Obi suggested that similar patterns of instability and interference are resurfacing.
He expressed concern that political platforms meant for national progress are increasingly consumed by power struggles rather than meaningful governance.
Beyond party politics, Obi used the moment to speak candidly about the emotional and personal toll of public service.
He described Nigeria’s current climate as one marked by insecurity, intimidation, and constant scrutiny, where sincerity is often misunderstood and integrity undervalued.
He emphasized that his approach to leadership has always been rooted in service, fairness, and compassion—not personal ambition.
Dismissing claims that his actions are driven by a quest for power, Obi reiterated that his primary concern remains the welfare of Nigerians, particularly in areas such as security, economic stability, and basic living conditions.
