In Iperu, Ogun State, a major project now reshapes Nigeria’s customs operations.
The ₦73 billion complex reflects years of planning and rising demand.

Tinubu Inaugurates ₦73bn Customs Complex
President Bola Tinubu commissioned the facility, and this move signals a shift in trade management.
As a result, it drives modernisation in enforcement, trade, and revenue collection nationwide.
The project team spans the site across 100 hectares, and they will construct 142 buildings to international standards.
Moreover, it supports operations across Lagos and the South-West, where trade activity remains highest.
Its location in Ijebu North Local Government clearly shows a push to decentralise federal operations.
Consequently, this step aims to ease pressure on Lagos and improve administrative efficiency.
Operational Expansion And Efficiency Gains
Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi explained that the project tackles strain on existing customs infrastructure.
In particular, Lagos’ Ikeja command can no longer support today’s operational demands.
The new Iperu complex will take over many functions that Lagos currently handles.
Therefore, it will centralise enforcement and logistics in one strategic location.
Although the project stands at about 45% completion, Adeniyi urged a review of plans to ensure timely delivery.
The development reflects rapid growth in customs operations across Nigeria.

In turn, existing systems have reached and exceeded their original capacity.
The complex will improve efficiency across land, sea, and air operations.
Additionally, it will include a training college and warehouse facilities.
Revenue Growth And Economic Impact
Officers now operate at Ogun airport to manage cargo operations.
This follows recent federal approvals that expand customs presence.
Governor Dapo Abiodun provided the land, while Ahmed Alli initiated the project earlier.
Together, they moved the project forward successfully.
Recent revenue growth highlights improved enforcement and compliance nationwide.
For instance, the Ogun II Area Command generated over ₦15 billion in early 2025.
This marks a 40% increase from the previous year.
At the national level, Customs generated ₦1.75 trillion in Q1 2025.
Ultimately, the Iperu complex supports Nigeria’s goal of stronger institutions and sustainable economic growth.
