Nigeria imported petrol worth ₦84.69 billion from Togo in the fourth quarter of 2025.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), petrol dominated Nigeria’s imports from Togo during the period.

Overall, Nigeria imported goods worth ₦88.91 billion from Togo in the fourth quarter.
Notably, petrol accounted for ₦84.69 billion, representing the largest share of the total imports.
Meanwhile, Nigeria also imported hides and skins, crude soybean oil and postage-related materials.
However, these items contributed only a small portion of Nigeria’s total imports from Togo.
Therefore, petroleum products continue to dominate Nigeria’s trade with Togo.
Nigeria Petrol Imports From Togo
At the same time, the fourth-quarter data highlights Nigeria’s continued dependence on imported refined fuel.
During the period, Nigeria sourced petrol from several countries.
As a result, the figures reflect the scale of the country’s fuel import dependence.
For instance, Nigeria imported ₦221.15 billion worth of petrol from Brazil in the same quarter.
Similarly, the Netherlands ranked among Nigeria’s largest petrol suppliers.
Nigeria imported ₦1.22 trillion worth of petrol from the Netherlands during the quarter.
In total, Nigeria imported ₦3.54 trillion worth of petrol in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Consequently, petrol remains one of Nigeria’s most significant import commodities.
Nigeria Fuel Import Dependence
Nigeria’s reliance on imported petrol largely reflects its limited domestic refining capacity.
Although Nigeria produces crude oil, the country has long depended on imported refined petroleum products.
In many cases, operational challenges have reduced output at state-owned refineries.
As a result, Nigeria spends large volumes of foreign exchange on fuel imports every year.
Consequently, fuel imports continue to place pressure on Nigeria’s trade balance.
Dangote Refinery Petrol Supply
However, new refining capacity could gradually improve domestic fuel supply.
In January 2026, Dangote Petroleum Refinery supplied 40.1 million litres of petrol daily to the domestic market.
The refinery also aims to process 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day at full capacity.
In addition, it signed an offtake agreement with 12 major and independent oil marketers.
The agreement supports nationwide distribution of refined petrol.
As a result, marketers could distribute between 60 million and 65 million litres of petrol daily across Nigeria.
