Bida, Niger State, became the focus of a major NAFDAC food safety operation this week.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) sealed 18 warehouses that stored expired products worth over ₦100 million.

NAFDAC Major Raid In Bida
The agency announced the operation on its official X page, emphasising its commitment to fighting unsafe goods.
Earlier, intelligence reports alerted NAFDAC that expired food and beverages were circulating in the area.
As a result, investigators from NAFDAC’s Enforcement Directorate targeted warehouses near Ndazabo White House along Minna Road and behind Bida Modern Market.
Discovery Of Expired Goods
Inside, officials found shelves stacked with non-alcoholic drinks, dairy products, bottled water, pasta, and candies—some already packaged for circulation.
Specifically, the officers recovered 80,000 packets of non-alcoholic drinks, 5,000 packets of dairy milk, 16,000 bottles of water, and 28 cartons of pasta.

They also arrested warehouse managers, while preliminary investigations linked the facilities to BY Ventures.
Moreover, further inspections at the company’s supermarkets in Minna revealed additional expired products and suspected counterfeit Goya oil.
Consequently, NAFDAC sealed the supermarkets and invited the company’s Managing Director for questioning.
Safeguarding Public Health
The agency warned the public that consuming expired products can cause food poisoning and long-term health issues.
It also advised consumers to check expiry dates carefully and report suspicious products or storage facilities.
This seizure forms part of NAFDAC’s nationwide enforcement, as the agency removes expired, counterfeit, and substandard goods from circulation.
Previously, officers intercepted counterfeit malaria medicines worth ₦1.2 billion in Lagos and destroyed 600 tonnes of unsafe products worth over ₦10 billion in Kano.
Through these actions, NAFDAC continues to protect public health, ensuring only safe, quality products reach Nigerian markets.
