Through the app, women can access finance, develop skills, reach markets, and obtain essential services and government support, creating new opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

Nationwide Expansion

Moreover, President Bola Tinubu announced the expansion of the Nigeria for Women Programme (NFWP), which now aims to empower 25 million women nationwide.

This scale-up builds on a successful pilot in six states, where the government supported over one million women, demonstrating the programme’s nationwide potential.

At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the President and highlighted women’s central role in Nigeria’s development.

He stated, “A nation that relegates its women is a nation bound for implosion.”

Furthermore, he stressed that women sustain families, strengthen communities, and drive national productivity.

President Tinubu acknowledged the ambitious goal of reaching 25 million women but insisted it remains achievable.

He urged the World Bank to provide financial, technical, and innovative support.

In addition, he emphasised that technology drives inclusion, making digital tools essential for effective service delivery and national competitiveness.

Strengthening Families

To complement these efforts, the government has declared 2026 the Year of Social Development and Families, directing federal, state, and local authorities to coordinate actions.

This decision follows a recent Memorandum of Understanding with Turkey, which aims to enhance family cohesion and improve social welfare systems.

Since 2018, the NFWP has actively focused on four pillars: building social capital, supporting livelihoods, fostering innovation and partnerships, and ensuring monitoring.

By forming Women Affinity Groups, providing grants, and creating collaborations, the programme equips Nigerian women with the skills, networks, and opportunities to shape their economic futures while strengthening families and communities nationwide.
