Mobilising Climate Capital Investment

The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), Germany’s DEG, and Africa Foresight Group are leading the NGX Net-Zero Programme (N-Zero).

The programme actively helps companies turn corporate climate ambition into measurable action.

“Global investors expect companies to act on climate,” said NGX Chairman Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga.

Driving Corporate Action

Net-Zero Climate Capital enables companies to balance emissions produced with reductions or removals.

It also funds projects that cut carbon, adopt clean energy, and improve operational efficiency.

Moreover, companies can still grow while implementing solar power, electric transport, and low-carbon technologies.

NGX CEO Temi Popoola warned that climate risk now affects company valuation and access to funding.

As a result, firms with credible climate strategies could attract $3 billion in blended finance and green investments.

DEG’s Monika Beck highlighted that private capital drives climate action while generating measurable returns.

“Partnerships like this allow us to deliver both impact and commercial viability,” she added.

Overcoming Execution Challenges

Execution remains a critical challenge.

Bolaji Balogun emphasised that climate disclosures must create tangible investor value.

Meanwhile, Dr. Owen Omogiafo stressed that Africa’s transition must balance sustainability with economic growth and social impact.

The roundtable concluded with a Gong Ceremony, signalling not just closure, but a strong call to action.

Through multi-million-naira support from Germany’s

develoPPP programme, NGX and partners provide frameworks, planning tools, and technical guidance.

Consequently, they equip companies to implement net-zero strategies while sustaining growth and protecting jobs.

Overall, Nigeria’s capital markets are positioning themselves as leaders in climate finance, where ambition meets action and investment.
