Medical doctor and former reality TV star, Faith Adewale, has claimed that some sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can lead to mental health problems if left untreated.

Adewale made the assertion while speaking on an episode of The Clarity Zone podcast, co-hosted by media personality Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, popularly known as Nedu Wazobia.
According to Faith Adewale, neurosyphilis the third stage of syphilis is a serious medical condition that affects the brain and can result in mental and psychological issues.
He explained that prolonged, untreated STIs may be an underlying cause of some mental health cases.
“Do you know STIs can cause mental problems? There is something called neurosyphilis, the third stage of syphilis,” Adewale said.
“There are many things that can lead to mental issues.”
He further noted that a number of individuals receiving treatment for mental health conditions may actually be suffering from complications arising from long-standing STIs.
“A lot of the people having mental health problems, some of them have STIs.
Neurosyphilis affects your brain. It affects the way you process things,” he explained.
