Travel And Aviation Alerts

In addition, airlines should obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to ensure safe flight operations.

The public should also follow updates on NiMet’s website and official social platforms to stay informed.

NiMet Forecast: Sunshine, Clouds, And Storms

From Monday to Wednesday, the north-central region will see sunny skies mixed with persistent haze.

Meanwhile, the southern region may experience sunny skies with scattered clouds, along with afternoon or evening thunderstorms.

Later in the day, light rainfall will affect Ogun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

On Tuesday, moderate dust haze will cover Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Yola, and Taraba states.

At the same time, the rest of the northern region will experience lighter dust haze with mostly sunny conditions.

By Wednesday, thick dust haze will blanket the northern region, while central states face moderate haze.

Simultaneously, southern states may see sunny skies with clouds, isolated thunderstorms, and light evening rains.

Dust haze occurs when strong winds carry fine Sahara Desert particles high into the atmosphere.

These particles reduce visibility, sometimes to less than 1,000 metres, which increases travel and transport risks.

They also irritate airways, worsening symptoms for people with asthma and other respiratory illnesses.

Therefore, NiMet urges residents to stay updated, take precautions, and avoid unnecessary exposure during this period.

By staying informed, following weather updates, and planning travel carefully, Nigerians can stay safe.
