Dangote Group is set to transform Africa’s energy sector with a $350 million EIL deal.
Notably, EIL, which delivered the original 650,000 bpd refinery in 2024, will now serve as PMC and EPCM.

Furthermore, the expansion adds a second processing train focused on producing Euro VI–compliant fuels.
Dangote And EIL Partnership
As a result, polypropylene output will rise from 830,000 tonnes to 2.4 million tonnes annually.
This growth involves upgrading the existing unit and installing two new propylene production units.
Accordingly, EIL highlighted that Dangote continues to trust its engineering expertise.
“Dangote Group believes in EIL’s excellence and has reaffirmed its commitment to this project,” EIL stated.
Record-Breaking Refinery Expansion
Consequently, once complete, the refinery will become the world’s largest single-site facility.
It will surpass India’s Jamnagar refinery, which currently produces 1.36 million barrels per day.
Moreover, the expansion will reduce fuel imports, strengthen energy security, and boost intra-African trade.
Located in the Lekki Free Zone, Dangote invested an estimated $19 billion in the complex.
The refinery began producing diesel and aviation fuel in early 2024, followed by petrol.

This achievement significantly reduces Nigeria’s reliance on imported refined products despite its crude oil dominance.
Additionally, the expansion will produce higher-quality fuels that meet stricter global standards.
Financing And Future Plans
Dangote actively explores partnerships in the Middle East to finance the project efficiently.
In 2026, the company plans to list a 10% stake on the Nigerian Exchange.
It also intends to pay dividends in US dollars, shielding investors from currency fluctuations.
Through these efforts, Dangote demonstrates decades of experience in executing large-scale industrial developments.
Overall, the refinery’s growth tells a story of ambition and Africa’s rising role in global energy.
By doubling capacity, Dangote not only builds a refinery but actively shapes the continent’s energy future.
