Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has reached a verbal agreement to become the club’s interim head coach until the end of the season.

Carrick will take over from his former teammate and ex-midfielder Darren Fletcher, who had stepped in temporarily following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
Michael Fletcher managed a 2-2 draw against Burnley and oversaw United’s FA Cup exit to Brighton, where former Red Devils striker Danny Welbeck scored the winner.
The 44-year-old Carrick, a five-time Premier League winner, previously served as caretaker manager in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed, before Ralf Rangnick took over.
Joining Carrick’s coaching staff at Old Trafford will be former Chelsea and England assistant manager Steve Holland.
United reportedly conducted face-to-face interviews with Carrick on Thursday and Solskjaer on Saturday.
Carrick is expected to lead the team for the upcoming Manchester derby on Saturday.
