NSIB immediately launched an investigation after a private jet’s nose landing gear collapsed during landing at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Sunday, but fortunately, all eight people on board escaped unhurt.

The drama began on a Hawker 800XP operated by Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited.
As the jet approached Kano from Abuja, the pilots noticed a problem with the landing gear indicator.
Pilots Spot Gear Issue
Consequently, they requested several low passes over the runway so air traffic controllers could visually confirm the gear’s position.
Each pass showed that all three gears appeared fully extended.
Safe Landing, Ongoing Inquiry
At around 10:34 a.m. local time, the aircraft finally lined up on Runway 06.

It touched down smoothly; however, the nose gear collapsed during the roll.
The passengers and crew quickly evacuated, turning a potentially serious accident into a lucky escape.
NSIB deployed its Go-Team to investigate thoroughly.
Investigators will examine the aircraft’s systems, review maintenance records, assess operational procedures, and interview the crew to determine the cause.
Moreover, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB, Mrs Bimbo Oladeji, emphasised that the bureau focuses on safety rather than assigning blame.
“We aim to identify issues and prevent similar incidents in the future,” she said.
NSIB will provide updates as the investigation continues.
