The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3), effective from the 2026/27 academic session.

The directive applies to both public and private secondary schools across the country, according to a report by Punch.
In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, the government said the decision is aimed at curbing examination malpractice and restoring credibility to Nigeria’s education system.
The ministry clarified that while admissions and transfers will still be permitted into SS1 and SS2, no student will be allowed to enter SS3 under any circumstance.
Officials explained that the policy is targeted at ending last-minute transfers associated with so-called “special centres” during external examinations, as well as promoting proper academic monitoring and continuity in teaching and learning.
School owners, principals, and administrators have been directed to comply strictly with the new regulation.
The Federal Government warning that any violation will attract sanctions in line with existing education laws.
The ministry added that the policy underscores its commitment to fairness, improved academic standards, and the rebuilding of public confidence in national examinations.
