Following the recent kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, comedian and filmmaker AY Makun has urged Nigerians to confront rising insecurity with honesty and unity.
Rising Insecurity Sparks National Concern
In a video he shared on Instagram, he addressed growing public concern over repeated attacks on vulnerable school communities across the country.
He then noted that national conversations often drift into politics instead of focusing on urgent solutions.
Makun explained that people who depend on political figures or structures for income struggle to speak freely.
He argued that financial dependence weakens accountability and reduces open criticism of governance failures.
He also warned against framing Nigeria’s security challenges through political, ethnic, tribal, or religious divisions.
Furthermore, he said such narratives deepen mistrust and slow collective national action.

AY Makun Urges Unity Over Division
Instead, he called on Nigerians to prioritise shared responsibility and national interest above all differences.
He stressed that insecurity affects every citizen regardless of background or belief.
Additionally, Makun said many people stay silent because they fear losing their livelihoods.
However, he insisted this silence allows national problems to worsen over time.
Call For Accountability In Governance And Society
Consequently, he encouraged deeper reflection on civic responsibility and the importance of speaking truth in public life.
His comments come amid renewed concern over insecurity following recent abductions of students and teachers in Oyo State.
These incidents have intensified calls for stronger protection of schools nationwide.
