Editors Guild has called on President Bola Tinubu to rescue Nigeria’s struggling media industry.
At the All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) in Abuja on Wednesday, the guild highlighted the financial pressures confronting journalists and media houses.

Editors Guild Issues Urgent Call
Meanwhile, NGE President Eze Anaba explained that newsprint now costs about ₦1.5 million per tonne, which makes survival extremely difficult.
Consequently, he urged the government to provide corporate tax relief, VAT exemptions, and grants to support digital transformation.
Government Support Needed
“Only a strong media can protect democracy,” Anaba said, adding that both legislative and executive support remain critical.

Furthermore, the conference attracted prominent figures, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Governors Hope Uzodimma and Usman Ododo, and Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

In addition, the Minister of Information, Chief of Staff to the President, and senior media leaders attended the event.
Finally, Anaba called for a review of laws that limit press freedom, emphasising that Nigeria needs a sustainable media industry to safeguard democracy.
