Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has assured fans that the team is fully prepared and determined to secure all three points in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.

Nigeria will face their West African neighbours on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, in what could be a decisive encounter for their World Cup hopes.
The three-time African champions currently sit third in Group C with 14 points from nine matches.
To qualify, they must defeat Benin and hope South Africa drop points against Rwanda.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Troost-Ekong acknowledged that qualification is not entirely within Nigeria’s control but expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to deliver.
“There are players here who want to make names for themselves and those who want their names to go down in history.”
“So, they are fully prepared and will play to win,” the PAOK defender said. “Tomorrow may not be 100 per cent in our hands, but we’ll do our best to win the match.”
