MTV, the iconic music television network that redefined music entertainment with its 24-hour music video format, will officially shut down its music channels in the UK and several other regions by December 31, 2025.

The move signals the end of an era for a brand that has shaped global pop culture since its launch in 1981.
While the flagship MTV channel will continue airing reality and unscripted shows, the decision underscores the dominance of digital platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, and TikTok, which have transformed how audiences discover and consume music.
Parent company Paramount Global confirmed the closures as part of a global restructuring plan following its merger with Skydance Media, aimed at streamlining operations across its media portfolio.
Fans and music lovers have expressed nostalgia over the announcement, calling MTV “the soundtrack of our youth.”
For nearly four decades, MTV has been a cultural force, introducing generations to new artists and shaping music trends around the world.
