Rumours spread quickly that Dangote Petroleum Refinery had imported petrol with high sulphur content into Nigeria.
The claims painted the company in a negative light.

In response, the refinery immediately denied the reports, calling them false, misleading, and damaging to its reputation.
The Truth Behind The Shipment
On Friday, Dangote revealed that the shipment contains intermediate feedstock, not finished petrol.
The company explained that it will refine the feedstock into high-quality fuel, following the practices used by leading refineries around the world.
“The cargo is intermediate feedstock, not finished petrol.
Once we refine it, it will fully meet Nigerian and international quality standards,” the statement said.
Quality, Transparency, And Global Reach
Furthermore, Dangote emphasised that regulators actively monitor its operations inside the Free Trade Zone.

The refinery produces and sells only premium fuels that meet strict specifications, reflecting its commitment to quality.
In addition, the company highlighted its exports to the United States and Europe, markets with some of the world’s toughest fuel standards.
“We attach quality certificates to all imports and share them transparently with regulators.
Moreover, we offer to make these documents public to ensure full transparency,” the statement added.
Beyond compliance, Dangote reaffirmed that it will advance Nigeria’s energy independence by maintaining strict standards, practising transparency, and delivering cleaner fuels for the country and beyond.
Nigeria’s Energy Transformation
Finally, as Africa’s largest industrial complex, Dangote Petroleum Refinery actively shifts Nigeria from a fuel importer to a net exporter.
By doing so, the company reduces the nation’s reliance on foreign products and strengthens energy security.
