Former Governor of Oyo State, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has officially ascended the revered throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, marking a historic moment for the ancient city.
The coronation ceremony took place today, September 26, at the Ose Meji Temple in the Ibadan South-East Local Government Area.

Earlier, Oba Ladoja had received the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan.
This is a symbolic step in the customary enthronement process.
As part of the tradition, the new Olubadan is expected to be formally presented with the staff and instruments of office by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde at the historic Mapo Hall.
Also, this is a venue renowned for hosting major cultural and political events in the state.
Oba Ladoja succeeds the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed on July 7, 2025.
His ascension has been described as the continuation of a long line of traditional leadership that upholds Ibadan’s heritage, unity, and culture.
Before his ascension, Oba Ladoja had a distinguished political career.
Also, he served as the Governor of Oyo State from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2006 to 2007.
Furthermore, he was a Senator representing Oyo South from 1992 to 1993.
His leadership experience is expected to bring a blend of modern governance insights and cultural wisdom to the Ibadan traditional institution.
The coronation has drawn excitement from indigenes and traditional leaders across Yorubaland.
