Veteran Yoruba actor, Adeola Shoremi, popularly known as Lanko Omo Oba Dubai, has revealed that his father disowned him for eight years due to his decision to pursue a career in acting.
According to Lanko, his father was firmly against his choice of profession and cut ties with him, leading to a prolonged family rift.
However, fate intervened during a period of illness that eventually reconciled them.
The actor narrated that his father was once hospitalised for fifteen days at the General Hospital, Ikeja, without receiving proper medical attention.
While Lanko was hosting an event in Ketu, his father’s wife called him to intervene.
“When I got to the hospital, the crowd recognised me and started hailing me. The commotion drew the doctor out, and when he saw me, he also acknowledged me. I explained my father’s case, and he was attended to immediately,” he recalled.
The incident became a turning point in their relationship.
“When I later went to see my father, he was in tears. He told me he never imagined a day would come when I would be the one to save him,” Lanko shared.

Reflecting on the experience, the thespian said it was one of the greatest challenges of his career but also a lesson on perseverance.
He encouraged young talents to stay true to their passion despite opposition.
