AFRIMA 2025: Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr Dominate Nominee List

The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has officially unveiled the nominees for its highly anticipated 2025 edition

This year’s awards recorded a historic 10,717 entries, making it the most competitive edition yet.

AFRIMA 2025: Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr Dominate Nominee List

 

Leading the nominations are Nigerian powerhouses Burna Boy and Davido, each scoring five nods including Album of the Year for their projects “No Sign of Weakness” and “5ive”.

The duo will also go head-to-head in the Song of the Year and Best Collaboration categories.

Shallipopi also emerged as one of the front-runners, bagging four nominations, including Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year for his hit collaboration “Laho”.

Meanwhile, Ayra Starr earned two nominations.

These includes a coveted spot in the Artiste of the Year category, where she’ll face off against Burna Boy, Davido, and Moroccan rapper El Grande Toto.

Other top contenders include:

DJ Maphorisa (South Africa) – 5 nominations

El Grande Toto (Morocco) – 5 nominations

Mia Guissé (Senegal) – 5 nominations

Moliy (Ghana) – 5 nominations

Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania) – 4 nominations

Tyla (South Africa) – 4 nominations

Uncle Waffles (Eswatini) – 4 nominations

The 2025 AFRIMA ceremony is scheduled to take place in Lagos from November 25–30.

It will features landmark events such as the AFRIMA Music Village, Africa Music Business Summit, Nominees Party, and the grand finale on November 30.

Also, the show will be broadcast live across 84 countries, reinforcing African music’s growing global influence.

Praising the remarkable list of nominees, AFRIMA jury member Delani Makhalima said:

“For years our voices were not heard, but today African music is global. This is AFRIMA, the biggest music entity on the continent.

The diverse list, representing stars from Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco, Senegal, Ghana, Tanzania, Eswatini, and the diaspora, reflects the richness, resilience, and worldwide impact of African music.
