Rivers State Governor Nyseom Wike, on Wednesday, donated N200 million to the Foundation for Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO) on their 4th FOWOSO Summit in Ondo state.

The foundation was founded by the wife of Ondo state governor, Chief (Mrs) Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, as a foundation to drive gender equality and improve family health through women empowerment projects.

Themed “Bridging the Gender Gal in Political Arena: A case of Nigerian Women”, the summit focused on the involvement of more women in the political space.

Speaking at the summit, the Rivers state governor who was represented by his Head of Service, Rufus Godwin, commended the first lady of the state for setting up a foundation that catered to the needs of wives and daughters of state government officials.

He then called for “the breaking of structural barriers that reinforce discrimination against women and girls through legislation.

Governor Wike also encouraged FOWOSO to mobilize women across the country and request a revisit of the gender equality bills recently rejected by the National Assembly.

“I wish to encourage this forum to mobilize the women folks across Nigeria to request the National Assembly to revisit the four gender equality Bulls they recently rejected during the amendment process of our constitution,” he said.

While thanking the First Lady for allowing him to speak at such an important event, the governor donated N200 million to support the work of the foundation.
