Former Ekiti Gov, Fayose Disassociate From PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has not fully come to terms with the loss of the 2023 presidential election, now it has lost a member, Ayodele Fayose.

Mr Fayose is a former governor of Ekiti State, but he believes his path is no longer with the PDP.

He declared his resignation from the PDP which is largely considered the biggest opposition party in Nigeria.

This is coming hours after his party, the PDP lost the presidential election to the All Progressives Congress.

He disclosed this while appearing as a guest on a programme on ARISE TV News on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Fayose claimed that the apparent irreconcilable issues that have allegedly caused the party’s division are related to his choice to leave.

He did, however, add that he would stop running for office and instead become an elder statesman.

“Let me tell you this: I stop using PDP as of today (Wednesday).

“You must be able to speak about specific facts in party politics. I am 62 years old, and I cannot start lying at this time. Admit when something is wrong in your family.

“I’m retiring from active politics to become an elderly statesman.

“Even in the months of January and December, I warned the PDP about this issue in a tweet that I sent on my Twitter account. I warned them that danger was ahead if the situation is not resolved.

“His Excellency Atiku Abubakar invited me to a hotel in Lagos.

“I informed him of four things, informing him that you had to comply with four demands.

“One, as of last year, you were 76 years old. You are already a contender, the G-5 replied, and you cannot abort a child who has already been born.” he said,

It is the first time he is talking about his departure from the PDP, but he had given a hint earlier.

In a tweet while collation of result was still on Fayose indicated eh was leaving the PDP.

Fayose was one of the presidential hopefuls of the PDP but he lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the party’s primary election.

Atiku lost the presidential election held last Saturday to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress after polling 6,984,520 votes to come second behind the winner who polled 8,794,726 votes.
