As announced, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) started selling rice to residents of Lagos State on Friday February 23, 2024, at a discounted price.
In the videos seen online, Lagosians were seen standing in a long queue to buy rice.
According to sources, a 25kg bag of rice is reportedly being sold for ₦10,000.
Lagosians queue up to buy the rice which customs claimed it seized.
The Customs Service said it secured approval from the government to dispose the seized food items to needy Nigerians at discounted prices.
Furthermore, the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, on Thursday while announcing that the distribution of seized foods would commence on Friday, stated that eligible persons must provide a Nigerian Identification Number.

Also, he added that customs officers were banned from partaking in the exercise, adding that the rice would come in 25kg, which would be sold for ₦10,000.
Beneficiaries were also warned not to resell the food items.
