In a world where power, politics, and personal ambition intertwine, few figures have had a lasting impact on Nigeria’s political landscape quite like Ibrahim Babangida (IBB).
The former military ruler, who steered the nation through turbulent times, has always been a man of mystery, power, and influence.
However, in a recent move that captured the attention of both political enthusiasts and ordinary citizens alike, Babangida ventured into the literary world. His book launch, aptly titled ‘A Journey of Service’, promised an insight into the life of a leader who has shaped much of Nigeria’s history.
However, beneath the layers of patriotism and memoirs lies a fascinating story not only about IBB’s reflections on governance but also the substantial wealth he garnered from this literary venture.
How much did Babangida truly make from the launch of his book? Was it simply a reflection of his enduring influence, or a shrewd business move capitalising on his legacy?
As the dust settles and the numbers emerge, we are left with a captivating narrative that mixes service, profit, and the complex world of Nigeria’s elite.
Join us on this journey to unravel the financial windfall of a book launch that could only be orchestrated by one of Nigeria’s most influential and enigmatic figures.
Not even the taunts by Nigerians could stop IBB from making a mark in the world of Literature.

Babangida received nearly 17 billion naira in donations mainly from Nigeria’s business elite.
Meanwhile, Aliko Dangote led the contributions with an 8 billion naira pledge.
Dangote’s pledge was broken down into 2 billion naira per year for four years.
Another billionaire, Abdulsamad Rabiu launched the book with 5 billion naira.
Also, other notable figures also contributed.
Furthermore, Folorunsho Alakija and a few others also made donations but did not disclose the amount publicly.
IBB’s book, just like his life, is filled with controversy.
IBB in his book admitted that the late Chief MKO Abiola won the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
He described its annulment as the most difficult decision of his life.
