Schools in Uganda have closed two weeks ahead of the normal end of term due to the increasingly fast spread of the Ebola virus.

While it seemed like the world had said a final goodbye to the Ebola virus in 2016, Uganda is currently facing another surge in the number of recorded cases.

The government however has reassured the people that everything is under control.

Experts disagree with the government’s decision to close down the school as they believed that keeping them in the school is a better way to contain the virus.

Speaking with the BBC, a senior research fellow at Makerere University School and the University of South Africa, Dr. Olive Kobusingye said this is the last thing the country needs.

“They are going to be packed in buses, minibuses and private cars providing maximum opportunity for people to mix in very close contact,” the expert said.

Over the last two months, the country has recorded 55 deaths and about 22 suspected deaths before the outbreak was officially declared on September 20.
