An unprecedented situation has delayed the hearing of presidential election petitions filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party against Tinubu’s victory.

The Presidential Election Petition Court heard the case of Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, at the presidential Election Court, PEPC in Abuja on Wednesday.

At the hearing, petitioners’ counsel, Professor Awa Kalu, who is a Senior Advocated of Nigeria (SAN), told the court that he was forced to request an adjournment due to unanticipated circumstances.

Part Of The Three Weeks

Kalu said: “My lords, our intention was to continue our case, but an unexpected development occurred at the secretariat.

“The unexpected development has to do with the illness of two of our key staff members.

“As a result, I am forced to pray for an adjournment until tomorrow”.

When the presiding judge, Justice Haruna Tsammani, asked Mr Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN, counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for his response.

He said that he was not opposing the application.

“My lords, I thought learned counsel would have forewarned us on this,” Mahmoud replied.

“However, I am constrained not to object, and this will count as a day out of their three weeks.”

Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, counsel to the All Progressives Congress, as well as President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima, did not object to the application.

Justice Tsammani said The case will continue on Thursday.

“Today will be regarded as one of the petitioners’ three weeks,” he said.

Speaking to reporters, Kalu said that the delay will have no impact on his client’s case.

He said that the following days would be used to prove his client’s case.

However, the petitioners has 19 days left, after telling the PEPC that they would require three weeks to substantiate their case.
