This excludes persons who served only the mandatory two-year military service in Sudan.

Sudan Writes US Presidency

Sudanese presidency sources said, Sudan’s army chief, Abdel-Fatteh al-Burhan, wrote to US Secretary General António Guterres on Friday, pleading with him to replace his envoy, Volker Perthes.

Perthes, who took office in 2021, advocated for a political transition to civilian rule, which others in the army opposed.

The army and the RSF agreed on a seven-day truce on Monday to allow for easier access to aid and services.

The battle, which began in Middle April, has killed hundreds and resulted in a refugee disaster.

Despite a period of relative calm, there have been reports of clashes, artillery fire, and airstrikes throughout the week.

Massive Loss Of Lives And Property

Many homes, particularly in prosperous areas, have been looted, as have food stores, flour mills, and other essentials.

Sudan’s war has murdered hundreds of people, including Mohammed Salah and Suhair Abdallah el-Basher.

Over 1.3 million individuals have fled their homes, either across borders or within the country.

According to the health ministry, at least 730 people have died, but the true figure is likely far higher.

With half of Sudan’s roughly 49 million people in need of aid, the United States Agency for International Development has stated that grain sufficient to feed 2 million people for a month is being supplied by ship.

However, it is unclear how that and other supplies will reach Sudanese people in the absence of security guarantees and legal permits.

“We are in a race against time to get aid to millions of people before the rainy season arrives in June,” said Eltahir Imam, program manager for Islamic Relief.
