Again the Rivers State story is reminding us, as parents and guardians, to be cautious on who our kids interact with.

Kids should not be left alone with strangers, it has been said several time, but some parents trust people so much that they throw caution in the wind.

The days are evil, so, parents should always be on alert to avoid child trafficking.

According to the Rivers State Police Command, its agents have detained three women who were part of a child trafficking ring that operated both inside and outside the state.

According to the order, the action was taken in response to a woman’s report that her child was missing in the Ubima Community of the state’s Ikwerre Local Government Area.

This information was provided in a statement released on Friday in Port Harcourt by the spokesperson for the Police in Rivers State,  Grace Iringe-Koko.

Iringe-Koko claimed that agents from the surveillance section of the commissioner of police pounced on the main suspect, who coincidentally had visited the complainant a few days prior to the kidnapping.

Part of the statement states: “Operators of the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit swung into action in response to a complaint by Ms. Precious Friday of Ubima Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State that her child was missing.

They detained Mercy Enyindah, who is also believed to have visited the complainant’s house just before the kid vanished.

“Chialuka Iheanacho (f) and her husband, Chukwuma Iheanacho, were arrested in Delta State as a result of the arrest of Mercy Enyindah, who has admitted to having taken the infant and two other children, along with her accomplice, one Amaka Ewuzie, during the weeks of February 16 and March 2023.

Other gang members who have been reported to be in Imo State are still being sought after.

While some of the children who were saved have been reunited with their families, according to the police, attempts are still being made to save Jasper Friday (m), a two-year-old who was sold in Asaba, Delta State.

In order to help the Police save the child, the command asked all well-intentioned public figures to provide them with information.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, also gave the citizens of the Rivers state the advice to be cautious when letting their kids interact with strangers.

She advised residents to raise the alarm or phone the emergency police numbers that had been made public by the command for immediate action if in doubt or on suspicion of any strange movement.

The suspects would be taken to court right away, according to the state police image maker.
