The National Youth Service Corps has warned youth corps members to remain apolitical if they choose to participate as ad-hoc staff in the 2023 general election.

This was said by the Acting Director General of the NYSC, Mrs. Christy Uba, at the Mbaukwu/Umuawulu Permanent Orientation camp in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra, on Saturday.

The Ag DG had attended the cultural carnival organized for the 2023 Batch C corps members in the state.

According to her, election duty was voluntary for corps members and interested persons must shun all forms of electoral malpractice.

She said the NYSC would not hesitate to hand over any corps member involved in electoral malpractice, to the state.

In her words, “If you are to participate in the 2023 elections, please note that it is an ad-hoc assignment, you must be neutral and apolitical.

“Do not participate in a wrong manner, you are not a politician as corps members, you may be in future but for now, you are corps members.

“Participation in election is voluntary, it is optional, you have a choice to make but if you have decided to participate, make sure you take part in all the trainings and sensitizations so that you can understand your roles and boundaries.”
