FIFA has revealed its plans to set to establish two new Women’s Football tournaments.
The world football governing body made this decision on Friday at its council meeting in Doha, Qatar.
In a statement on its website, the Olympic Games Women’s revealed that the tournament will also be expanded to accommodate more teams.
“For women’s football, the current international match calendar structure will remain unchanged until 2025 with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 and 2031 hosts to be decided in 2024 and 2025 respectively.

“ The creation of a new FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, a new Futsal Women’s World Cup, and the expansion of the Olympic Games Women’s tournament from 12 to 16 teams have been endorsed,’’ the statement said.
While the announcement has been welcomed with open arms, certain issues have been raised as to why the decision may not be coming at a perfect time.
In a report by Chief Women’s Football Reporter, Jack Lacey-Hatton examines this decision.
Hatton believes that there would not be enough time to implement this decision until 2025 at least.
According to the reporter, there is barely enough time to play in this competition especially as it is scheduled to hold next year.
“One, pretty larger, caveat remains, however. Where will the time be found to play the competition? If there are more than seven to eight teams competing, this could become a major headache for the sports’ organisers.
“The link between a packed schedule and the number of injuries we have seen in the Women’s Super League this season is obvious; Emma Hayes and Jonas Eidevall, as well as other top flight managers, have spoken about this regularly during the season. Players who competed at Euro 2022 had little time to rest before going straight into pre-season,” Hatton said.
