PDP Urges INEC, FG To Beef Up Security Ahead Of Elections

PDP Urges INEC, FG To Beef Up Security Ahead Of ElectionsThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) believes the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has plans to disrupt the electoral process of the February 25 elections.

The party has urged security agencies, and the Federal Government to beef up security around the offices and facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party are optimistic that this would forestall any attacks from the APC camp.

PDP says that “some frustrated and violence-inclined APC governors ”are plotting to cause a “widespread crisis”.

“These crises are being planned to “truncate the elections, subvert our democracy and impose an undemocratic situation on our country.

“Just because the APC has been rejected by Nigerians”.

The spokesman for the party, Debo Ologunagba, charged security agencies to take all necessary steps to provide adequate protection for INEC facilities, equipment, and personnel.

“We also call on the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to put all measures in place for free, fair, transparent, and credible elections, keeping with his assurances to Nigerians and the International Community.

Ologunagba alleged that “the said APC interests, which are bent on scuttling the elections to avoid a humiliating defeat, are allegedly mobilising thugs to launch fresh attacks on INEC offices”.

APC Plots To Postpone Elections

The party’s spokesperson alleged that “some prominent APC leaders including certain APC governors” have plans to destroy INEC’s Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS).

This he claims they resorted to, “having failed in their designs to have the elections postponed”.
