Victor Osimhen may very well be on his way to becoming crowned as the next African player of the year after his name popped on the reviewed list of shortlisted candidates for the individual trophy.

Now, he has been shortlisted among the last three men standing for the title of the African Player of the Year.

Last season, Osimhen’s 26 league goals contributed significantly to Napoli lifting the Italian Scudetto for the first time in 33 years.

Osimhen qualified in the male category alongside Assisat Oshoala, who also qualified in the women’s category.

Oshoala has already broken records to have emerged as a 5-time winner of the African Player of the Year in the women’s category.

The Barcelona female forward is looking to clinch the title again for the 6th time this year.

For Osimhen, this may not be coming as a surprise to him since he made it to the 6th spot on the list of shortlisted contenders for the 2023 Ballon d’Or.

CAF Awards Holding On December 11

The winners in both categories will be announced and crowned at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards on December 11, 2023.

The CAF Awards is an awards evening held to honour the best African Association football players. It will be held this year at the Palais des Congrès, Movenpick, Marrakech, Morocco.

It is hoped that in light of the good work, Victor Osimhen has put in thus far, he will be crowned as the next African Player of the Year by CAF.
The last time a Nigerian won the African Footballer of the Year award was in 1999. Nwankwo Kanu won the last title for the giant of Africa.
