Hope Uzodinma may not have it easy in the coming Imo guber election, as Peter Obi has brought the full weight of the Obidient campaign to Imo State
To make matters tough for the incumbent, the residential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and LP National Chairman Julius Abure, among others, are in Owerri, Imo State on Tuesday for the party’s governorship campaign kick-off.
At the ceremony, Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, and Alex Otti were welcomed by the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Athan Achonu and other LP chieftains.

During the flag-off, which drew a big crowd of party members and supporters, Abia State Governor Alex Otti insisted that the Labour Party had just one genuine candidate and that the party’s complete weight is behind him.
Otti said: “I’m here as a witness. I conducted the only accepted party primary that produced Athan Achonu as the Governorship Candidate for Imo LP. We have only one candidate and the full weight of the party is with him”.
Also, Peter Obi said Labour Party’s Athan Achonu will address the state’s challenges if elected.
He further said: “We know what it takes to change Nigeria, so we pleaded with Imo people to give him their support. Today we are here to launch the campaign flag-off and unveiling of Achonu’s manifesto”.

Addressing the rally, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Imo State, Achonu, promised that if elected, the Labour Party government in Imo State would focus on jobs and wealth creation.
Also, he said he would focus on infrastructure provision such as roads, water and electricity.
“On November 11, 2023, Imo citizens will have the opportunity to elect a new governor to steer the affairs,” he stated.
That election is coming at a time that the state had recorded horrific killing of innocent individuals, kidnapping and willful destruction of property.
“The upcoming election will give Imolites a chance to alter the current track of inefficient and unproductive governance, which has effectively shattered our people’s dreams and aspirations.
“As is widely acknowledged, the fundamental indices for measuring human development have largely been in reverse.
“Before the APC administration, Imo was a very peaceful and progressive state on the verge of economic resurgence and prosperity.
Achonu Campaign Speech
“Unfortunately, we have recently witnessed a descent into anarchy and lawlessness, which has transformed vast swaths of our homeland into abandoned spaces for criminality.
“Today, Ndi Imo do not visit their villages, and traditional ceremonies such as burials and weddings take place outside the homeland.
“As a result, Imo State’s economy has collapsed, resulting in capital flight, divestment, and business failures.
“Our healthcare delivery system remains severely challenged and incapable of providing our people with access to affordable care.”
