The counting of ballot papers has started across 28 Nigerian states.
In few hours, Nigerians in different states will begin to know who will serve them as governors in their states for the next four years.Â
Also, voters will know who will represent them at the State House of Assembly, as a lawmaker.
Hours after voting started at different polling units across 28 states in Nigeria, sorting and counting of ballot papers began.
Undoubtedly, it is usually a moment people love to witness. It gives them an assurance that goes beyond the flaws of the electoral body.
In Lagos for instance, counting began around few minutes after 3:00PM at some polling units.
As voting ends, electoral body’s personnel began sorting of ballot papers according to parties.
They pay absolute attention to the thumbprint to ensure that invalid ballot papers would not be counted as valid.

The counting is one stage that gives voters an assurance that their vote for their party counted.
However, it does not end there.
After counting of votes, the electoral body’s officials will record the numbers in the docket provided for the election.
Furthermore, the officials will take pictures of the docket and upload it to the portal of INEC for display of results.
Agents of political parties also receive copies of the ballot paper.
This process of uploading results with BVAS was largely missing in the presidential election.
Meanwhile, Nigerians will be waiting to get the final results once INEC opens it collation centers across the 28 states.
