This is according to data contained in the Transport Fare Watch report of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

It revealed that air travel surged by 11.01% between November 202 and November of 2023.

The report indicated that the cost for a single journey soared by ₦‎8,063.78 within the period under review.

Also, it stated that the average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes for a single journey was ₦‎81,334.05 in November.

This shows an increase of 3.24% compared to the previous month.

“On a year-on-year basis, the fare rose by 11.01% from ₦‎73,270.27 in November of the prior year” the report stated.

Due to the security challenges across Nigeria, many Nigerians opted for air travel.

Increased operating cost, hike in aviation fuel prices and foreign exchange scarcity were reasons airline operators gave for the increase.

Meanwhile, the report noted that the average bus fare paid by commuters for journeys within the city per drop declined by 6.23%

The price dropped from ₦‎1,117.30 in October to ₦‎1,047.63 in November.

However, on a year-on-year basis, it rose by 64.44% from ₦‎637.10 in November 2022.
