One of the sad results is the destruction of bank facilities out of anger.

But the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, wants Nigerians to take that anger to the polling boots, with their thumbs on the Labour party’s tick box.

He said in a tweet that the only way to end the current suffering in Nigeria is by voting with anger.

“There have been reported pockets of skirmishes in Benin City and other places arising from the recent scarcity of cash.

‘I plead with Nigerians to be patient; help is coming.

“The suffering and harsh economic realities have brought untold anger on the people.

“May we, for the nation, take such anger to the polls on February 25. That is the only way to end the present suffering,” Mr Obi said.

Why The Naira Is Scarce

Some notes of the Nigerian naira were redesigned in 2022 and a deadline for the old notes to become illegal tender was fixed.

From the initial January 31 deadline, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) extended it till February 10.

However, despite the extension, the new notes have not fully been circulated. This situation is causing a scarcity.

The old naira notes have also been returned into the banking system, a retrieval that is now disrupting economic and commercial activities.

Now, Nigerians suffer to get cash.
