Some eastern elders appear to be singing the song: ‘Thunder fire you’, as they seek the introduction of deities and gods in politics.

If you are a free thinker, you could say that will be the best, as their desire is that all political office holders will stick to their oaths, knowing the consequence is ‘grave interment’.

Chucks Ibegbu, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said Politicians should be sworn-in with African deities such as Amadioha (god of thunder and lightning) and Ogun (god of iron).

Ibegbu made the suggestion during a media interview with journalists.

“Using African deities to swear in politicians would prevent them from looting the government’s treasury while in office,” he said.

No Longer Afraid

The public affairs analyst urged the National Assembly to pass legislation allowing politicians to be sworn in in the name of African deities.

“I advocate that all political office holders in Nigeria be sworn in using Africa Oaths with our deities,” he said.

“Politicians should be sworn in with African deities to instill fear and honesty in them because they are no longer afraid of the Bible and Qur’an.

“Unless and until this is done, our politicians will continue to rob us and ruin our lives.

“Politicians should swear with Amadioha, Ogun, and Chockonoze that they will reconsider looting our patrimony.

“As a result, we urge the National Assembly to pass legislation to that effect as soon as possible.”

Also, Ibegbu called for the abolition of security votes, stating that the “immunity clause and full-time national and state legislature at the expense of Nigeria is inhumane and outrageous.

“We spend 80% of our resources on non-productive politicians and elites, leaving the masses in agony,” he said.

Their demand is coming at a time that Nigerians are insisting they need a change from a system with politicians whose major aim is often to go for their share of the national cake father than to serve.

We only wonder what the content of the oath will be.
