A few days ago, a former deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Professor Onje Gye-Wado, was abducted by gunmen.

In fact, it was on Good Friday that the bad news came in that the man was taken from Nasarawa State.

Gye-Wado was abducted from his residence in Gwagi village of Wamba Local Government Area of the state.

Now he has regained freedom after his his abductors collected a ransom of ₦4 million.

The Negotiation

The spokesman for the Police in Nasarawa State, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the kidnap in a press release.

He says, the assailants forcefully broke into Gye-Wado’s residence.

The kidnappers reached out to the former Deputy Governor’s family via a phone call.

After he was taken, they demanded for ₦70 million as ransom for his release.

The family negotiated from ₦2 million, later, ₦3.5 million and eventually paid ₦4 million before he was released.

A family source says: “The kidnappers collected the ransom near Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga, with 200 Naira recharge card.

“After which he was freed from their den close to Angwan chiyawa, close to those hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon”.

Professor Gye-Wado was taken back to the Palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, upon his release.

A former commissioner of information in the state, Mr Dogo Shamma, confirmed his release via a text message.
