A 17-year-old girl, simply identified as Ayisat was on Monday, reportedly swept away by strong flood at Alapafuja axis of the Surulere Low-Cost Housing Estate area of Lagos State following persistent rainfall.
According to an eyewitness, the victim reportedly slipped into a large canal overflown with stormwater during the Monday afternoon heavy downpour.
It was gathered that some neighbours jumped into the heavy floodwater in a bid to save the girl.
“Two or three people who could swim jumped into the water from different points, but the water flow was so strong and fast. They gave up on the rescue mission after they lost sight of the girl,” a neighbour narrated.
