Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are encountering difficulties in their divorce process.
This is particularly in dividing their assets due to the absence of a prenuptial agreement.
Sources have revealed to People that their divorce proceedings could become contentious since they did not have a prenuptial agreement in place.
The disagreements primarily revolve around financial matters between Jennifer Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, who married in a spontaneous ceremony at The Little White Chapel in Las Vegas.
Jennifer Lopez’s divorce filing, which lists their separation date as April 26, 2024, indicates that their assets are currently ‘unknown.’
Under California state law, only the income and assets accumulated during their brief marriage are deemed ‘community property’ and subject to division.
This includes their Beverly Hills mansion, purchased for $60.8 million last year, and various projects and endorsements they engaged in after their marriage.
Currently, they are undergoing mediation—a less formal and quicker alternative to traditional divorce proceedings.
