With the increase in the rate of hard substances abuse by youths in Nigeria, it is sad to begin to come to terms with possible increase in mental cases in years to come.
Now, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is working hard to reduce the use of these drugs.
The NDLEA says it raided a lounge in Osogbo, Osun State’s capital. Its intention was to disrupt a nightclub that was set up to abuse illegal drugs.
Several organisers discovered to be in possession of drug exhibits were arrested in that operation, the agency said.
This was disclosed in a statement posted on the organisation’s Facebook page on Sunday.
The statement was signed by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy.
The NDLEA Raid
“Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, raided a lounge in Osogbo, Osun State Capital, where a night party organised for illicit substance abuse was going to be held, and arrested some of the organizers who were found with drug exhibits.
“The raid followed credible intelligence that some persons were going to hold a night party tagged Unholy Alliance for Stoners and Drunkards”.
According to the agency, different types of illicit substances were going to be sold and consumed by patrons.
Soon after the organisers began to gather at Berrymist Lounge, to start the party, the NDLEA operatives swooped on them.
They were arrested.
The lounge is located in the Ofatedo area of Osogbo.
Afterwards, the operatives recovered illicit substances of abuse and drug paraphernalia from them.
Those arrested include: Ikotu Omolayo, 25; Fola Olabode, 30; and Akorede Adunni Ajibola, 22.
Also, the management of the lounge has been invited for further investigation.
“This comes on the heels of an earlier raid on Thursday, November 23 at Area 5 forest reserve, Ile-Ife where operatives recovered 156kgs of cannabis sativa,” the agency stated.
