  1. International Workers Day is celebrated world over on May 1 by the working class.
  2. On November 11, 1887 August Spies and 3 others were executed for organising a 4 day protest against the then 16-hours working arrangement. Their death is significant to workers because it set the course for what was to come – a reduction in work time.
  3. Every Mar 1, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), addresses people and workers.
  4. Workers’ Day was first recognised as a public holiday in Nigeria in 1980 by the People Redemption Party of Kano State. It officially became a national holiday on May 1 1981, and has been celebrated on this date ever since.
  5. Celebration of International Labor Day allows honouring every worker’s effort and hard work towards their job. Also, it makes us realise that  International Labour Day should be beyond one day.

Workers should be respected every day for the efforts they are putting in daily to their organisations.
