The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
After the plea, Emefiele’s lead counsel, Joseph Daudu, told the court that his client had been in detention for the past four weeks without being arraigned in court.
The senior lawyer also told the presiding judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo that the application for bail had been filed and served on the prosecution.
Bail Application
Meanwhile, the DSS raised objections to the court hearing the bail application, insisting that it has not been served.
Emefiele later ask the court to admit him to bail on self-recognisance but the court has not ruled on the matter.
Earlier, the Department of State Services (DSS) had brought Emefiele to court for arraignment following the order of a court in Abuja.
