Fubara Grant To Medical Doctors
State Commissioner for Health Dr. Adaeze Oreh announced this decision to the media in Port Harcourt on Thursday evening.
The grant will cover two years—2023 and 2024. Payments will range from ₦800,000 to ₦900,000 per resident doctor each year.
In 2023, 215 resident doctors received the funding. So far in 2024, 174 resident doctors have received their training grants.
Oreh stated that Fubara’s action reaffirms his administration’s commitment to supporting doctors’ professional development. The grant ensures that the training initiative remains effective.
Fubara believes this support will encourage doctors to diligently complete their residency training, which is crucial for providing high-quality healthcare.
Oreh highlighted the importance of up-to-date training for doctors to address quality healthcare challenges in the state.

She said: “These are essential for doctors to stay current with the latest medical knowledge and practices, ensuring they can provide the best possible care to patients.”
She also noted the importance of research in medical training. The grant helps cover costs associated with research proposals and dissertations.
Additionally, traveling to examination centers can be costly for doctors stationed in remote areas.
The funding covers transportation to ensure they can attend necessary exams.
Oreh explained that examination fees for residency exams are high. By covering these fees, the government prevents financial constraints from hindering doctors’ career advancement.
She thanked the governor for prioritizing the welfare of health personnel.
She praised Fubara proactive approach to addressing issues that affect human capacity development.
Oreh concluded that Fubara support will ultimately lead to improved health outcomes for Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.
