The European Sex Championship promotes diversity by welcoming competitors of any gender or sexual orientation.

The organisers highlight the potential strategic significance of sexual orientation in this sport, which they hope will be embraced by other European nations in the future.

According to the organiser, “the incorporation of sexual orientation as part of sporting tactics will be a groundbreaking development among European countries”.

Dragan Bratych, head of the Swedish Federation of Sex, expressed his hope that sex will one day be recognised as a sport.

He emphasised the importance of sexual participation in promoting both physical and mental well-being, as well as the need for training.

He said: “Just like any other sport, achieving desired results in sex requires training. As a result, it is only natural for people to begin competing in this sphere as well.

“The distinguishing characteristics of this sport, is that the goal is to give the opponent great pleasure.” Unlike traditional sports, loss typically results in disappointment.

“The competitor’s success in this game is determined by their capacity to satisfy their partner.”

“Sex as a sport is a difficult activity that requires creativity, emotional intelligence, physical fitness, and work capacity.

“Competition legislation will evolve over time in response to advances and needs.” He said.

According to reports, 20 people from various countries would compete in the competition. The winner would be determined by a panel of three judges as well as audience votes.

The contestants were allegedly expected to be well-versed in the Sanskrit sex and eroticism scripture, Kamasutra, and its application was supposed to earn them extra points.

How True Is This Sex Competition

Fact-checkers were called in when the news went viral on social media sites.

They stated that the claims of Sweden holding a sex tournament were completely false.

They did, however, claim that a plan to organize such an event was previously submitted, but that the “noble cause” was rejected in April of this year.

Later, the Swedish news outlet Göteborg-Posten clarified that the Swedish Sex Federation’s application had been rejected because it was incomplete and did not meet certain conditions.

Several news outlets including India Today, The Times Of India, News 18 and Hindustan Times reported that Sweden has introduced a European Sex Championship after recognising sex as a sport in the country.

FACT CHECK: FALSE

How Did It Start

One of the biggest Swedish-language daily, Göteborgs-Posten, alleged that the entire scenario was orchestrated by a Swedish man named Dragan Bratic.

Bratic, according to the publication, owns many strip clubs and wants sex to be classed as a sport.

In January this year, he applied to become a member of the confederation.

According to the Swedish Sports Confederation, an individual claimed there existed a sex federation and requested for membership, but the application was rejected in May.

In April this year, a comparable keyword search on Google led to a news piece from Swedish news outlet Göteborgs-Posten denying the same viral claim.

According to the story, the Swedish Sex Association has petitioned to the Swedish Sports Confederation to have sex recognized as a sport in the country in January 2023 and to hold a tournament on the subject.

The newspaper states that, Dragan Bratic, representing the Swedish Sex Association, submitted the application in January and also sought membership in the Swedish confederation.

Bratic stated: “We’re registered, we have an organization number, and it’s okay to train and compete in sex, it’s a sport like any other”.

The Confederation later confirmed in a press release that the application had been refused.

Björn Eriksson, the Federation’s outgoing chairman, was cited as saying, “It’s pure power seeking.”

This application will be rejected because it does not fulfill our requirements. We’ve got other things to do.” Bratic allegedly owns and operates several strip clubs across the country.

To be Livestreamed

Another big Indian media outlet linked to CNBC released “details” on how to participate in the event, including an email address linked to a “Swedish Sex Federation.”

When you visit www.swedishsxfederation.com, a pop-up window informs you that the European Championship in Sex will be live streamed on www.livesexhouse.com.

“Interestingly, a website with that name does exist, but it led to a pornography website with a different URL, which is currently running a countdown for the “competition” and claims to be livestreaming the event.”

The confederation flatly denied any involvement with a sex group. “There are no sex federations that are members of the Swedish Sports Confederation,” Setzman explained.

According to the so-called sex federation, “it’s a shame that the SSF (Swedish Sex Federation) was not helped by the 2 billion Swedish kronor allocated (by the Swedish government) to registered sports organisations”.

False Information

Despite not being acknowledged, Bratic stated that they would organize a sex championship.

His group said in a written response to DW that “the Swedish Sex Federation finances the entire European Championship with its own funds and with its own voluntary work.”

The ‘about us’ website, states that the federation was created in 2016 in Sweden and is the world’s only organization that practices sex as a sport.

There was no mention of the Swedish Sport Confederation in relation to the Swedish Sex Federation, demonstrating that the latter is an independent organisation.

Furthermore, Asa Larsson of Källkritikbyrn, a Swedish fact checker, stated, “that neither sex has been approved as a sport in the country nor will there be a tournament on it.”

In a written statement supplied to DW news, Anna Setzman, spokesperson for the Swedish Sports Confederation, disputed the story, saying; “all of this information is false”.

“Right now, false information about Sweden and Swedish sports is being spread in some international media. These are categorically denied.” She added.

“The whole saga began when one of the biggest Swedish-language dailies, Göteborgs-Posten, alleged that a Swedish man named Dragan Bratic was behind the whole thing.”

Setzman said: “The Swedish Sports Confederation has drawn attention to the fact that in some parts of the international media news is currently being spread that a sex federation has become a member of the Swedish Sports Confederation.

“It is false information designed to smear Swedish sports and Sweden”.
